NEXTGEN UBE • FORMAT-AWARE STUDY

Prepare for the bar you are actually taking.

Testify uses the learner’s jurisdiction and administration date to distinguish Legacy UBE, NextGen UBE, and state-specific paths. The protected beta now separates high-volume foundational-law practice from a dedicated original NextGen Format Lab covering select-one/select-two multiple choice, integrated resources, short constructed responses, counseling, drafting, research, and performance-task skills. It does not represent that starter lab as official NCBE content or a psychometrically calibrated full-exam simulation.

What the NextGen UBE tests

For the July 2026–February 2028 scope, NCBE identifies eight foundational concepts and principles: Business Associations and Relationships, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contract Law, Criminal Law and Constitutional Protections of Accused Persons, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts.

Three broad question categories

The NextGen UBE uses standalone multiple-choice questions, integrated question sets, and performance tasks. Integrated sets can combine legal resources and documents with multiple-choice, short-answer, medium-answer, drafting, counseling, or dispute-resolution work.

Multiple-choice is not one format

Official NCBE materials describe select-one questions with four options and select-two questions with six options. Testify’s current 2,000-question bank is primarily original four-choice foundational-law application practice; it should not be mistaken for a complete NextGen simulation.

Skills matter alongside doctrine

NCBE’s NextGen scope includes legal research, legal writing, issue spotting and analysis, investigation and evaluation, client counseling and advising, negotiation and dispute resolution, and client relationship and management.

HOW TESTIFY ROUTES THE LEARNER

Jurisdiction + administration date control the study path.

Testify tracks official NextGen-adoption and UBE-status information and refreshes that reference regularly. A learner’s selected jurisdiction and planned administration determine whether the account is treated as Legacy UBE, NextGen UBE, or a state-specific path.

For a NextGen learner, the traditional 2,000-question four-choice bank is labeled as foundational-law application practice. Format-specific work lives separately in the NextGen Format Lab, so Testify does not blur traditional MBE practice into a false NextGen simulation.

NEXTGEN FORMAT LAB

Practice the task type as a separate skill.

The current protected lab includes 16 original format exercises spanning select-one and select-two items, integrated resources, short constructed response, client counseling, drafting/editing, legal research, investigation/evaluation, negotiation/dispute-resolution planning, client relationship/matter management, and condensed performance-task work. Family Law and Trusts & Estates exercises use supplied fictional law so the learner practices resource-based application without treating those rules as part of the current foundational-law bank. Progress stays separate from traditional MBE-style accuracy.

This is meaningful format-specific practice, but it is not yet the volume or psychometric equivalent of a complete commercial NextGen simulation bank. Testify will keep that boundary explicit while the inventory expands.

CURRENT EXAM STRUCTURE

Three three-hour sessions, with different task types carrying different weight.

NCBE’s current public materials describe a nine-hour NextGen UBE delivered in three three-hour sessions. Across the exam, the current blueprint calls for 120 standalone multiple-choice questions, six integrated question sets, and three performance tasks; some material is pretest and not scored. Testify uses this structure to guide format coverage, not to imply that its current beta inventory is a full calibrated replica.

For the July 2026–February 2028 scope, Family Law and Trusts & Estates can be tested through supplied-law tasks rather than as part of the eight foundational-law areas. That is why Testify labels those exercises as supplied-law practice.

OFFICIAL FORMAT REFERENCE

Use NCBE’s own blueprint and samples for the controlling exam format.

NCBE’s current blueprint reports a score allocation of 49% standalone multiple-choice, 21% integrated question sets, and 30% performance tasks. Official samples and the examinee guide should control if a third-party prep description ever differs.
